Project Blitz and Cleaning St. Louis
Project Blitz
Each year, Project Blitz engages residents in cleaning up St. Louis city neighborhoods. It’s a fantastic opportunity to join your neighbors in making your neighborhood better with Brightside St. Louis. It’s your chance to help clean up the area streets, alleys and vacant lots. Let’s team up to clean up St. Louis. All you have to do is supply the energy. Brightside will supply the tools and trash bags! Register today!
Anyone can organize a Blitz project. Neighbors, businesses, schools, churches, scout troops and other civic organizations are encouraged to get involved. No project is too big or too small. Whether you focus on one block or an entire neighborhood, it all makes a positive difference!
Projects can be scheduled year-round, allowing groups to select a clean up date and location that is convenient for them. Be sure to register your project at least one week in advance.
To register your project fill out the online form, or print and mail the 2024 Blitz Registration Form.
Free Flower Seedlings
In the spring, groups with registered Blitz Projects are eligible to request free annual flower seedlings for planting in public spaces (medians, neighborhood entrances, street barricades, tree lawns, etc.) in St. Louis city. This year, flowers will be available for pickup on May 3rd and 4th.
To request flower seedlings, register your Blitz project online and fill out the flower request portion, or print and mail the 2024 Blitz Blooms Request Form by April 30, 2024.
Block Captains
To keep projects on track and powered by volunteers, we rely on our Block Captains. They’re vital to creating clean, green and sustainable St. Louis city neighborhoods. It’s the Block Captain’s job to recruit, educate and organize residents on their block to participate in Project Blitz and keep them updated on applicable St. Louis beautification efforts.
Volunteer to be the leader on your block!
Project Blitz Tools
When you register your Blitz Project, Brightside St. Louis will equip you with the tools you need to tackle your Blitz project. To keep track of all the tools and ensure they get returned, we suggest borrowing one tool per volunteer. You can request what tools to borrow through the Blitz Registration Form. Handy tools include litter grabbers, brooms, shovels, rakes and recycling carts.
Litter Grabbers
We have the tool to make your Project Blitz clean up even easier! These litter grabbers are 3 feet long, making it quick and effortless to pick up unsightly litter. You can request litter grabbers on your Blitz Registration for a speedy litter pick-up project or to help with a larger clean-up.
Let’s work together to keep St. Louis litter-free. To take your dedication to a litter-free St. Louis a step further and get a “Please Don’t Litter St. Louis” Yard Sign for your block or take The Litter Pledge as a reminder to keep our city clean!
Brooms, Rakes and Shovels
We can provide you with various types of brooms, rakes and shovels for your cleanup needs. Our volunteers have found it helpful to use flat shovels as a dust pans for push brooms, so you may want to consider borrowing those items as a pair.
Recycling Carts
Help keep valuable materials out of the landfill during your next Blitz clean up by borrowing a cart! Recycling carts are 32-gallon rolling carts that allow you to easily separate recyclables like bottles, cans, some paper and cardboard. Learn what and how to recycle at your next clean up.
Got Bulk?
For large, bulky items (furniture, appliances, etc.), please use your neighborhood’s regularly-scheduled monthly bulk pick-up. If you want to include bulky items in your Blitz project, be sure to schedule your project the weekend before your regularly-scheduled bulk pick-up.
Project Blitz is primarily funded by a grant from HUD and the St. Louis Community Development Administration.
